1999 Chateau Mauvinon |
| 1999 Chateau Mauvinon Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Grape variety: This wine is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc grapes. Location: a 50-acre estate in the district of St. Sulpice de Faleyrens, sheltered by the hillsides of St. Emilion. Soil type: Vines that are at least 20 years old thrive in a gravelly, sandy soil whose subsoil is rife with clay deposits. Vinification: Only handpicked grapes are used in Chateau Mauvinon. After harvesting, the strictest adherence to traditional viticulture is followed to ensure this wine is representative of the famous St. Emilion Grand Cru structure. The wine is aged in oak barrels for approximately 15 months before being bottled at the estate. Tasting notes: Color: Profound, ruby red. Bouquet: Complex nose of vanilla, truffles and woody aromas. Taste: Chateau Mauvinon is a well-bodied, elegant wine, good tannins are present and there is long finish with a distinct aftertaste. Recommendations: Enjoy this classic wine with most traditional favorites including fine meat and poultry-based dishes, game, pasta and risottos. Serve at room temperature - 14 to 16 C. Will continue to mature and develop with age. May be kept eight to ten years. |
